The Ankara Index
How Africa moves — culture, movement, diaspora, and what travellers actually do when they get here.

What it is
A point of view before it is a product
Governments count who arrived. Hotels know where people stayed. Airlines know how they travelled. Nobody writes down what visitors did once they were here, who they met, or why some of them came back.
The Index is where we write that down. It reads culture, movement, diaspora behaviour, what people search for and how destinations get talked about — and it says what that means, in sentences, with a byline.
The same reading becomes an intelligence layer later, subscribed to by tourism boards, investors and development institutions. That comes after the writing earns an audience, not before.
How it is built
Three steps, repeated
Ingest
Institutional data from tourism boards, statistics agencies and aviation; our own country, cultural and political research; surveys and expert interviews; and — once the platform opens — what travellers search, save and book.
Detect
Six signals read across all of it: culture, movement, diaspora, experience, perception and economics.
Interpret
What is moving, why, where, and what happens next — written for someone who has to make a decision on it.
Written first, measured second. The platform makes the reading sharper; it is not what makes it worth reading.
Who it is for
Travellers first
People planning a trip
Where to go and when, what is worth the journey, what a place is actually like this year rather than in a guidebook written five years ago.
Institutions, later
Tourism boards, investors and development institutions who need to know where visitors go, what they do and where demand is forming. That edition comes once the reading has a track record.
